Garzon ((:ɡarˈson)) is a town and municipality in the Huila Department, Colombia. Garzon is a municipality located in the center of the Colombian department of Huila, about 450 kilometers south of Bogotá, 114 miles south of the provincial capital, Neiva. Known as the Diocesan Capital of Huila is being the first Catholic diocese in the region, also Garzón is called "the Soul of Huila". It is a city proud of its religious architecture and culture. ==History== The town began to form toward the year 1775 on lands donated by Don Vicente Manrique de Lara. In 1783 at the initiative of some of its inhabitants (Francisco Manrique), it was officially founded the hamlet known as Garzoncito. On January 1, 1788 was granted the status of municipality and the 1810 received the title of Villa. Decree May 19, 1825 the town was appointed as head of the Canton of Timaná; later became the capital of the southern province of Tolima Sovereign state and by creating the department of Huila, was head of one of the three provinces where it was divided the new department.
